November 18, 2010 at 7:30 PM, Aiken Performing Arts Group will present a "The Musical Tribute to Aiken's 175th Anniversary" at Aiken's First Baptist Church. More than 100 performers and musicians will participate in this "Once in a Lifetime" musical conglomeration, including the USC Symphony Orchestra, and the USCA Concert Choir. A special highlight of this major event will be the "Top Songs in Aiken over the Past 175 Years," as well as other music specially chosen to honor this important anniversary.
Following the intermission, Maestro Portnoy will lead the Orchestra, accompanied by Kenneth Courtney,
organist, in the great Organ Symphony by the
French Composer Camille Saint-Saëns, born in
1835, a giant work never before played in Aiken.
"The Symphony was written to be performed by
a Cathedral size organ and full symphony
orchestra."
